Your Hawaii Whale Watch

This has been a busy week for our humpback visitors as the season winds down for a Hawaii whale watch. I prefer to call it a “whale sail”: we set sail with the hope of seeing these gentle leviathans cruising our waters. February and March are the best for Oahu. The females come to the Lahaina area to have their calf and re-mate before heading back to their Alaska feeding grounds. We have the fortune of seeing mums and calves playing and gaining strength in our Waikiki waters before their 3000 mile trip north.

What time of day should we schedule our whale watch?

Because this is custom sailing, and humpback whales do not have a schedule, we can sail any time of day you want and whatever length of time you wish. Our islands are most consistently graced with trade winds so any time is a good time to go sailing…✨book a SUNRISE cruise, a morning or afternoon day-sail, or our most popular SUNSET cruise ✨ It is all good for a whale sail.

Will we see marine life other than humpback whales?

“Kaikiwi” sails from Oahu’s south (protected) shore, not far from Honolulu, past beautiful coastline in the cobalt blue blue waters of our Pacific.  Wildlife such as green sea turtles, “honu”, dolphins, “nai’a”, humpback whales, “kohola” (in winter season only), and flying fish, “malolo” are some of the critters we may see as we sail. Beautiful views of Oahu, Diamond Head and, on clear days, far in the distance, Molokai and Lanai can sometimes be seen. Please understand this is not “destination” sailing.  “Destination” is sailing.

Hawaii Ash Scattering

Hawaii has a strong spiritual energy both on and off the ocean so it is no surprise that a farewell at sea is a healing and soothing way to help say goodbye and help you to have strength as you begin this change.

Call for your custom ash scattering at sea.  Let us know about your loved one and how you want to celebrate their life.

When should we sail?

A gentle sunrise cruise, a day-sail, an awesome sunset cruise. All are options for your private Hawaii ash scattering. Remember your loved one as your captain sails your private sail boat upon Oahu’s stunning azure waters. Take your time, there is no rush.

Gone from my Sight

“I am standing upon the seashore. A ship spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!”

“Gone where?”
Gone from my sight. That is all.  She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone!” there are other eyes watching her approach and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
“Here she comes!”
And that is dying.

– Henry Van Dyke, a 19th Century clergyman, educator, poet, and religious writer

Private Hawaii Sailing Charter

While sailing off the Oahu coastline, we often see Hawaiian green sea turtles lazing in the sun, dolphins jumping the bow, whales (winter only) spouting off to starboard, and the stunning shine of Venus at sunset. Leave Waikiki and the crowds behind. Step onto your own private yacht and enjoy the ride of your life. The wind is our engine as we sail the beautiful azure blue Pacific waters. The sound of the ocean will thrill. You can choose a magical sunrise cruise, an adventurous tradewind day-sail, a romantic sunset cruise; depending on your preferences and schedules…anything is available for any occasion.

Why a private sailing charter?

What will we see?

The stunning coastal landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and the chance to see marine wildlife up close makes your private sailing charter an unforgettable experience. However, it’s essential to book in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, to ensure availability and secure your preferred sailing date.

Tradewind sailing at its best. Call Sail Blue Hawaii today for YOUR private Hawaii sailing charter.

Private Hawaii Whale Watch

“It was a fabulous afternoon with tradewind sailing at its best while enjoying our Hawaii whale watch. Captain Gaelyn managed to find two sets of mom and calf humpbacks in the bay. Our private sailing charter was also blessed with dolphins swimming in Kaikiwi’s bow wake. I had read on her website: “watch spinner dolphins surfing the bow wake” but thought that an exaggeration. Nope! much to our delight.”

Honolulu’s Best Private Sailing Charter

“It is perfect in today’s world to sail with Sail Blue Hawaii. We choose Captain Gaelyn and her “Kaikiwi” because of her beautifully maintained sailboat and the “private” sailing charter. Keeping family safe while having fun on the ocean was our priority. Humpbacks, dolphins, turtles, flying fish… all in one fabulous balmy afternoon. When we wrote for information on her private sailing charter, she wrote back:

We didn’t miss out on one single thing in that very wordy paragraph. Cobalt blue blue? Understated! Wildlife? They were all out to play. Molokai and Lanai were both there, yes, in the distance. Destination? Sailing!”
